Roots and a first calling
Born in Timmapur
Born on 15 June 1960 in Timmapur village, Kandukur, in Ranga Reddy district — then part of Andhra Pradesh, now Telangana — to G. Swamy Reddy and Andalamma.
- Education
Trained as a tool engineer
Completes a diploma in tool engineering at the Central Institute of Tool Design, Balanagar, Hyderabad.
Youth wing of the Janata Party
Begins political work as a youth leader of the Janata Party, a role he holds until 1980.
Building the youth organisation
Joins the Bharatiya Janata Party
Becomes a member of the BJP in the year of its founding.

State office in the BJYM
State treasurer (1982–83) and state secretary (1983–84) of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, then its state president in Andhra Pradesh from 1986 to 1990.

National office-bearer
National secretary (1990–92), national vice-president (1992–94) and national general secretary (1994–2001) of the BJYM.

Leads the party's youth wing nationally — the culmination of a quarter-century in the organisation.
The Legislative Assembly and state leadership
Elected from Himayatnagar
Wins his first Assembly election in Hyderabad's Himayatnagar constituency, by a margin of 31,761 votes.
Amberpet
After delimitation, wins the newly drawn Amberpet constituency by 27,243 votes.
President, BJP Andhra Pradesh
Takes charge of the state party in March 2010 and leads it until the state's bifurcation.
Telangana's first BJP president; re-elected MLA
With the formation of Telangana on 2 June 2014, becomes the first president of the party's new state unit (to April 2016), and retains Amberpet by 62,598 votes.
A narrow defeat
Loses Amberpet in the December 2018 Assembly election by 1,016 votes.
Parliament and the Union Council of Ministers
Elected to the Lok Sabha
Wins Secunderabad in the 2019 general election by 62,114 votes.
Minister of State, Home Affairs
Sworn in on 30 May 2019 as Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Cabinet Minister
On 7 July 2021, elevated to Cabinet rank with charge of Culture, Tourism, and Development of North Eastern Region.
G20 Tourism Ministers' Meeting
Chairs the meeting in Goa on 21–22 June 2023 under India's G20 Presidency; the Goa Roadmap is adopted.
Telangana BJP president again
Returns to lead the state unit from July 2023, alongside his ministerial duties.
Coal and Mines
Re-elected; Coal and Mines
Retains Secunderabad in the 2024 general election by 49,944 votes and takes charge of the Ministries of Coal and of Mines in June 2024.
Offshore mineral auctions
Launches the first tranche of offshore mineral block auctions — 13 blocks in the Arabian Sea and Andaman Sea — on 28 November 2024.
National Critical Mineral Mission
The Union Cabinet approves the Mission in January 2025, with an outlay of ₹16,300 crore.
State presidency concludes
His second term as Telangana BJP president ends on 30 June 2025.
India Mining Week
Announces India Mining Week 2026, scheduled for 15–17 November.
