01Introduction
A career that moved from the organisation to the Assembly, and from the Assembly to the Union Cabinet.
Gangapuram Kishan Reddy was born on 15 June 1960 in Timmapur, in the Kandukur area of Ranga Reddy district, in present-day Telangana. He trained as a tool engineer at the Central Institute of Tool Design in Hyderabad before public work became his full-time occupation.
His early years in politics were spent almost entirely inside the youth organisation — first with the Janata Party's youth wing from 1977, then with the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, where he rose from state treasurer to national president by 2002.
He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 2004, served three consecutive terms, and led the party in undivided Andhra Pradesh and then in the new state of Telangana. Since 2019 he has represented Secunderabad in the Lok Sabha.

03Public life
Built in the organisation, tested at the ballot box
For more than two decades before holding elected office, Kishan Reddy's work was organisational: building the party's youth wing in Andhra Pradesh and later across the country as national general secretary (1994–2001) and national president (2002–2005) of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
Electoral politics followed. He won Himayatnagar in 2004 and Amberpet in 2009 and 2014, and in 2018 lost Amberpet by 1,016 votes. A year later he entered the Lok Sabha from Secunderabad, the parliamentary seat that includes Amberpet.

Seven years in the Union Council of Ministers
Since May 2019 he has held six Union portfolios across three ministerial terms — first as a Minister of State, then as a Cabinet Minister.

05Culture, heritage & public service
Heritage as a public responsibility
From July 2021 to June 2024 he was Union Minister of Culture and of Tourism — the ministries responsible for India's museums, archaeological heritage, cultural academies and national tourism policy.
During India's G20 Presidency in 2023 he chaired the G20 Tourism Ministers' Meeting in Goa, where members adopted the Goa Roadmap for tourism as a vehicle for the Sustainable Development Goals.

National Critical Mineral Mission
Approved by the Union Cabinet in January 2025, the Mission covers exploration, mining, beneficiation, processing and recovery of critical minerals, with a further ₹18,000 crore of investment expected from public sector undertakings. The Minister has described it as central to self-reliance in batteries, solar panels and semiconductors.
